How to Clean Aluminum Blinds, Wood Blinds, and Faux Wood Blinds.

Cleaning your blinds can be a chore that is easily forgettable. However, after awhile, the dust and dander can cause your blinds to become dirty and soiled. Aluminum, wood, and faux wood blinds are easy to clean and cleaning them is crucial in order to extend their lifespan. It is important to also check the manufacturer's guidelines and instructions for cleaning to make sure you do not damage the blinds in any way. If no specific instructions exist or you cannot find them, use the below guide for some general rules about how to clean wood blinds, faux wood blinds, and aluminum blinds.

How to Clean Wood Blinds

Wood blinds can be dusting regularly with a duster or a brush. However, you may also choose to use furniture polish to keep the blinds looking as good as possible. Spraying the polish onto a cloth and cleaning it that way will ensure the wood blinds to keep its finish. Avoid using water to clean your wood blinds as the water will damage the blinds. Using a cleaner designed specifically for wood will ensure the blinds will not get damaged during cleaning.

How to Clean Faux Wood Blinds

Although faux wood blinds look like real wood blinds, they are much simpler and easier to clean. A duster or microfiber cloth should take care of most of the cleaning if not too much dust has accumulated. For a deeper cleaning, wiping down the slats with a clean rag and soap water will be more than enough to keep them clean. You can purchase a microfiber cloth here: https://blindshadeparts.com/micro-fiber-towel/

How to Clean Aluminum Blinds

Aluminum metal blinds can be cleaned with a dry rag or with a soap and water to wipe the dust away. If the blinds only gathered a little dust or dirt, the dry rag will be sufficient in spot cleaning. If a deeper cleaning is needed, soap, water, and a rag/sponge may be used. It is important to use a paper towel or dry rag to wipe off any moisture left behind from the initial cleaning.

It is important to note that the lifespan of blind is around 7-10 years and maybe a bit more than that. If you notice that your blinds are damaged it might be time to replace them. If the blinds do not close or open easily or if the components are falling apart or broken, it is time to replace them. Are your blind slats not operating correctly? We have an article that goes over how to fix that. Read about it here.
