How to Fix Vertical Blinds
Our below guide will go over common issues and problems with vertical blinds. We will go over how to fix vertical blinds.
What are Vertical Blinds?
Vertical blinds are a common window treatment for residential and commercial uses. Vertical blinds consists vanes that hang vertically from a track. With an opening mechanism, a pulley or a wand, they are able to open in two different ways: the blind's vanes can be opened allowing some light in or the vanes can be moved to either side of the track allowing maximum light in. Vertical blinds are perfect larger doors or windows.
How to Fix a Broken or Damaged Vane
A common problem with vertical blinds is that the part where the vane connects with the headrail can be damaged. This part of the vane can be torn or cracked. This is a common wear and tear problem that happens when the blind gets hooked on something or tugged. A broken vane makes it difficult for the blind to open and close.
If you do not want to spend money on a new vane, simple and cheap fixes are available. Although they may not be the most aesthetically pleasing fixes, they are practical and cost-effective.
Take the vane and place a paper clip to cover the gap. Place a piece of tape over the paper clip to keep it in position. Using a toothpick, pin, or another small sharp object, poke a hold through the tape where the gap is. Several alternatives can be used instead of a paper clip. You may choose to use just tape, a business card, or even a zip tie..
How to Remove and Replace a Vane
To fix a vertical blind, it is sometimes required to remove its vanes. To remove a vane, all you need is a plastic or sturdy card (driver's license, credit card, etc.) Take the card and gently place it between the vane and the vane carrier. Slide the vane and the card down and out of the vane holder. Make sure the vane is not sliding back onto the hook.
How to Fix a Vane that is not Turning or Closing
Vanes that are not turning or closing properly can usually be fixed by either twisting them to return to their correct alignment and direction. If the problem comes from the vanes overlapping, you can push them apart and make sure they are not in each other's way of turning. If these do not work, try checking the vane carrier. Be sure the vane is connected correctly to the carrier.
