How to Dog-Proof Your Blinds
Dogs are a man's best friend but not necessarily a blind's best friend. It can be difficult to fully dog-proof your window treatments but you can take some steps in to protect them. This article will go over how to dog-proof your blinds and stop them from biting or destroying them.
Keep Your Blind or Shade Raised
Keeping your window treatment raised enough so that your dog can look out the window without moving the blind. This way, you dog doesn't have to move around the blind when he or she wants to take a glance at the outside world.
Spray Your Blinds with Anti-Chew Sprays
If you find that your canine companion loves to chew on your blinds, go to your local pet store and pick up some anti-chew spray. Spraying your blinds with this spray will prevent your dog from biting and chewing them. They are harmless to dogs but have an awful taste and smell that they do not like.
Install Dog Friendly Window Treatments
Some window treatments can withstand dogs more than others. For example, vertical blinds can easily be moved around without too much damage and a dog can maneuver itself in between the vanes if need be. Roller shades can also be moved around smoothly and effortless by dogs without be damaged or ruined. Wood and Faux Wood blinds work as well since they are made of sturdy material and are able to have your dog poke through the slats safely and easily.
Avoid using mini blinds or drapes as these window treatments can be easily damaged by excited paws and head movement when closed.
Follow these steps to make sure your blinds and shades can withstand the excitement and love from your dog!
