Cutting Down Roller Shades
Have roller shades that are too wide? You can reduce width on roller shades they are a little wide and do not fit. Follow the steps below to ensure your roller shades fit perfectly without the need of a technician or special expensive tools. Note: This is for roller shade width only, not length.
- Measure the width of the roller shade extending on both sides of the frame for outside mount or measure the width of the frame for inside mounts. (Read our guide here for the difference between inside and outside mounts).
- Draw a line on both sides to indicate the desired width of the shade.
- Remove the roller shade from its bracket and lay them flat on the ground leaving it fully extended down.
- Take scissors and cut down the extra width of the shade following your marking.
- Using a small hacksaw, cut the extra width on the top tube and bottom rail so that the width is the same as the rest of the shade.
- Replace the end caps on both the bottom rail and top tube and remount the shade into the brackets.
- Make sure to check that the shade works properly and the width is exactly how you want it.
