How to Clean Cellular Shades

Cellular shades, or honeycomb shades, are one of the best window treatments it terms of function and aesthetics. Cellular shades offer some of the best temperature control and privacy while providing a contemporary look and feel.

Their unique design makes them susceptible to dust, dirt, and other particles since they can get inside the fabric and the fabric folds. Cleaning cellular shades without damaging them is an easy task if you follow our guide below.

Dusting Cellular Shades

Similar to other window treatments, a light dusting can remove dust and other debris. For the outside the shade, a feather duster or microfiber cloth should be used to remove dust. Be sure to follow the direction of the shade while dusting in a horizontal manner. You can purchase a microfiber cloth here: https://blindshadeparts.com/micro-fiber-towel/

Do not forget to clean the inside of the shade as well since dust will also be built up there as well. To clean the inside, a can of compressed air to blow any material out of the shade. A blow dryer on the lowest and coolest setting can also be used if you don't have compressed air on hand. Be careful not to use too high of pressure or too warm of air as this can damage the shade.

Vacuuming Cellular Shades

For a more heavy duty cleaning, try using the hose brush attachment on a vacuum and follow the same horizontal pattern to clean as you would with a duster. Use a lower setting to ensure the shade doesn't get ruined.

Washing Cellular Shades

If dusting and vacuuming does not work, using warm soap water can work. Using soap and water mixture, dampen the cloth and use it to gently spot clean any stains or extra dirty areas. Avoid scrubbing the shade with the cloth and never put the shade in water. When the shades are dry, leave them up for an hour or two to make sure the fabric folds hold correctly.

By following these tips, your cellular shades will as clean as they day you bought them! Need cellular shade parts? Shop here! Have a question about your blind parts? Email us at info@BlindShadeParts.com!
