How to Clean Roller Shades

Cleaning roller shades are a simple and quick way to keep them looking like new. Just like any other window treatment, dust, dirt, or dander can accumulate over time. This guide will go over how to clean roller shades.

Cleaning Fabric Roller Shades

Fabric roller shades require dusting from a feather duster or gentle sweeping with the soft brush attachment on a vacuum. Be sure to provide supports from the back of the shade to prevent the fabric from being damaged by the vacuum. Fabric roller shades should not be cleaned with water. However, you may use water and soap to clean the headrail or other components that is not the shade's fabric.

Cleaning Vinyl Roller Shades

Vinyl roller shades, unlike fabric roller shades, can be cleaned with water. You can use a soap and water solution and a sponge/towel to gently wipe the roller shade. Use this same solution to clean the headrail and other componenets. Do not use bleach since that may discolor the fabric. Once you are done wiping down the fabric with the soapy mixture, leave the blinds pulled down to dry. You may also use a hair dryer to quickly dry the roller shades.

Note: Never immerse your roller shades into water. This can damage both the fabric and the hardware.
