How To Restring a Mini Blind

One of the most common issues with mini blinds is that the strings within the blind can be damaged. If the string is damaged, the blind will not function properly and will fail to raise, lower, or even stay in place. Restringing a mini blind is a simple fix. The only thing you need is a new string and a few basic tools/hardware.restring mini blind

  1. To figure out the amount of string you need for your mini blind repair, double to length and then add the width. It may be wise to replace all the strings in your mini blind, not just the damaged one.
  2. Grab the tassels and cut them white removing the any washers. After this is done, pull the string from the bottom rail and cut the knot off.
  3. Remove the old string from the blind and take a lighter to the end of the new string to stop it from fraying.
  4. From top to bottom, take the new string and thread it down the slat holes and through the bottom rail.
  5. After you tie the knot through the bottom rail, remove any excess string
  6. Remove the blind from its brackets or mounting
  7. Take a wire restring tool through the cord guide located at the bottom of the headrail.
  8. Thread the string through the eye of the tool and pull it.
  9. Take the wire tool and thread the string around the cradle. When threading the cord lock, thread the strings between the roller and latch.
  10. Reinstall the blind and test the blind.
  11. If it works, take the washers and reinstall them.

However, if the cords are not broken, you do not need to remove the blind. Follow the steps below if that is the case.

  1. Remove the ladder cap from the bottom of the bottom rail.
  2. Pull the cords slightly within the bottom rail.
  3. Cut the cord above the not and weld the old cord and the new cord together with a lighter.
  4. From the cord lock side, pull the tassel toward the left and pull the new cord through the same way.
  5. After the cord is a good length, tie the knot in the ends by the bottom rail and remove the excess.
